Lufthansa Technik has successfully completed the assembly of a Lockheed L-1649A, marking a significant moment in aviation history. This aircraft, known as the Super Star, was a prominent member of Lufthansa's fleet in the late 1950s. On January 17, the restored aircraft was moved out of its hangar on its landing gear for the first time at Hamburg.

The Lockheed Super Star became part of Lufthansa's fleet in 1957 and introduced an exclusive travel experience with its Senator class. It played a key role in transatlantic flights to New York and was notable for being among the last propeller-driven aircraft on these routes. The roll-out took place at Hamburg, an important location for both Lufthansa and Lufthansa Technik, with support from Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin-Stiftung.

The restoration project involved assembling large components such as the fuselage and wings. These parts arrived in October 2023 along with smaller pieces packed in wooden crates. A highlight is the cockpit's authentic design, replicating features from the 1950s era.

Following this roll-out, plans are underway to dismantle and transport the aircraft to Münster/Osnabrück Airport by July for repainting in its original design from the Parabola phase.

Inside, the cabin maintains a vintage aesthetic but includes modern technology. The seats are refurbished from an earlier model and upholstered in wine-red leather, complemented by historically patterned carpets and curtains.

Once repainted, the Lockheed Super Star will be relocated to Frankfurt by October. It will feature prominently alongside another historic aircraft at Lufthansa Group's new conference center starting spring 2026, coinciding with Lufthansa's centennial celebrations.
