Delta Air Lines has tightened access to its Sky Club lounges, making it more challenging for passengers to gain entry. These lounges, known for their comfort and amenities, have been a key feature for qualifying travelers. Previously accessible through various methods such as credit cards or complimentary guest passes, Delta has implemented stricter entry rules over the past couple of years.

Notably, "No more access for SkyMiles Platinum and Platinum Business American Express cardholders" and "No more access for Basic Economy passengers, even with SkyClub membership" are among the changes introduced. This shift in policy has led to dissatisfaction among some customers who find themselves unable to enter or limited in their annual visits. Membership fees have also increased, further restricting access.

The decision stems from overcrowding issues within the lounges. As Dwight James, Delta’s senior vice president of customer engagement and loyalty stated to CNBC in 2023, "Some of the changes that we’re making ensure that we’re taking care of our most premium customers with our most premium assets, one of those being the Sky Club."

To address these concerns, Delta has expanded its lounge portfolio by adding new locations and expanding existing ones at Miami International and New York LaGuardia airports. The airline is also launching Delta One lounges for high-end ticket holders.

Access to a Sky Club now requires traveling internationally in business or first class with Delta or partner airlines or purchasing an annual membership if eligible. Credit card holders face new limitations on visits unless significant spending thresholds are met.

These measures reflect Delta's efforts to maintain a premium experience while managing lounge capacity effectively.
