Air New Zealand recently concluded its Schools for Safety initiative, which invited children from across New Zealand to creatively express their ideas on safety. After reviewing over 40 entries, five schools were recognized for their outstanding contributions.

The winning schools are Rotokawa School, Clyde School, Rotorua Primary School, Chertsey School, and Tikorangi School. Each of these institutions impressed with unique safety video concepts. Chertsey School focused on tree climbing as a theme, while Clyde School depicted secret agents preparing for a Safety Inspector's visit. Rotokawa School stood out by incorporating te reo in its 'Tumeke!' video. Rotorua Primary used sports and rugby to illustrate safety measures, and Tikorangi School highlighted rural school safety with themes involving cow and sheep road rules.

Dame Valerie Adams served as the lead judge for the competition and praised the participants' creativity and quality of work. "Schools for Safety was all about giving Kiwi kids the chance to be creative and showcase their school's safety initiatives," she said. "There were so many incredible entries."

Adams noted the difficulty in narrowing down the winners due to the impressive incorporation of language and culture in many submissions. "The winners stood out for their unique approach to safety, excellent delivery, and creativity," she added.

Kiri Hannifin, Air New Zealand's Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, commended the young participants' efforts: "We received more than 40 entries from schools large and small across Aotearoa – an incredible volume." Hannifin expressed delight at seeing how much importance Kiwi schools place on student safety.

"I was blown away by the quality of the videos – I think we might even have some future safety stars in the making!" Hannifin stated.
