Boeing has delivered the first of four 787 Dreamliner aircraft to TAAG Angola Airlines, marking a significant step in the airline's fleet modernization efforts. The new aircraft arrived in Luanda just before Angola’s Liberation Day on February 4, almost five decades after TAAG Angola received its first Boeing 737-200.

Nelson Pedro Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines, stated, “The delivery of the 787-9 is a pivotal step in our strategy to modernize TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet.” He emphasized that the new airplane will enhance efficiency and versatility, helping meet market demands and providing passengers with a world-class experience.

TAAG currently operates a fleet that includes five 777-300ERs, three 777-200ERs, and seven Next-Generation 737s. These aircraft connect Angola to destinations across Africa, Europe, South America, and China. With the introduction of the 787 Dreamliner, TAAG plans to expand its long-haul network by launching new routes to Europe and exploring opportunities in Asia and North America.

Anbessie Yitbarek from Boeing Commercial Sales for Africa commented on their longstanding relationship with TAAG: “The 787 Dreamliner will complement TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet of Boeing 737 and 777 jets... Our 50-year relationship with TAAG Angola Airlines has been built on trust and shared goals.”

Ordered in 2023 as part of modernization efforts, the Dreamliner is noted for reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 25% compared to older models. Alongside this delivery, TAAG is collaborating with Boeing on purchasing CO2 emissions reductions through Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) certificates.

Boeing's outlook suggests Africa will require around 1,170 airplanes over the next two decades. Currently, more than sixty airlines operate approximately five hundred Boeing planes across Africa.

Founded in 1938 and based in Luanda, TAAG has grown its network significantly over eighty years. It serves both domestic markets within Angola as well as international destinations while also offering air cargo services essential for regional development.
