Etihad Airbus A380 | Etihad Airways Website

Etihad Airways has introduced the Airbus A380 on its Abu Dhabi to Singapore route as of February 1. This marks the first time the airline has deployed the aircraft to Singapore, joining other destinations including London Heathrow, New York JFK, and Paris CDG. A fifth destination is anticipated, but details remain undisclosed.

Previously, Mumbai was utilized for crew training with A380 flights between September 2024 and January 2025. Etihad's history with Singapore dates back to 2007, utilizing various aircraft models such as the Airbus A330-200/300 and Boeing 777-200LR/300ER and 787-9/10.

The transition to the A380 occurred on February 1 for the 3,178-nautical-mile route. The flight schedule is set daily: EY498 departs Abu Dhabi at 22:05 and arrives in Singapore at 09:35+1; EY499 leaves Singapore at 19:25 and reaches Abu Dhabi by 23:20. The extended layover in Changi optimizes connectivity in Abu Dhabi.

In August 2024, Etihad announced plans to introduce the A380 to Singapore, reducing frequency from twice daily to once daily. This shift results in a slight reduction in seat capacity compared to using the Boeing 787-9 but aims for improved load factors and yields.

Currently, Etihad operates six A380s with plans to reintroduce a seventh aircraft into service. Future expansions could see increased frequencies or new destinations added to their superjumbo network. In October 2024, Arik De hinted at a new destination that has not previously seen their double-deckers.

Singapore now hosts five airlines operating the A380: British Airways, Emirates, Etihad, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines. This number is matched only by Sydney and surpassed by London Heathrow and Los Angeles.
