New Zealand, known for its geographical isolation, has several long-haul and ultra-long-haul international flight routes. Based on data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, here are the eight longest commercial flights currently operating to New Zealand.
The Vancouver (YVR) to Auckland (AKL) route spans 7,043 miles. Air New Zealand operates five weekly flights in each direction and plans to increase this frequency to daily starting November 2025. The airline uses Boeing 777-300ERs and 787-9s for this route. "Air New Zealand deploys a mix of Boeing 777-300ERs and 787-9s on the route," states the release. Air Canada also flies this route with its Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
From Houston (IAH) to Auckland (AKL), covering 7,414 miles, Air New Zealand offers three or four weekly flights during the northern summer season, increasing to five per week in winter using Boeing 777-300ERs. It is noted that "Air New Zealand is the only airline to operate direct flights between Houston and Auckland."
