Air New Zealand Boeing 777-300ER | Wikipedia

New Zealand, known for its geographical isolation, has several long-haul and ultra-long-haul international flight routes. Based on data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, here are the eight longest commercial flights currently operating to New Zealand.

The Vancouver (YVR) to Auckland (AKL) route spans 7,043 miles. Air New Zealand operates five weekly flights in each direction and plans to increase this frequency to daily starting November 2025. The airline uses Boeing 777-300ERs and 787-9s for this route. "Air New Zealand deploys a mix of Boeing 777-300ERs and 787-9s on the route," states the release. Air Canada also flies this route with its Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

From Houston (IAH) to Auckland (AKL), covering 7,414 miles, Air New Zealand offers three or four weekly flights during the northern summer season, increasing to five per week in winter using Boeing 777-300ERs. It is noted that "Air New Zealand is the only airline to operate direct flights between Houston and Auckland."

American Airlines provides seasonal daily service between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Auckland (AKL), a distance of 7,439 miles, using its Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

Emirates connects Dubai (DXB) with Auckland (AKL), covering an impressive distance of 8,810 miles using Airbus A380 superjumbos year-round. Emirates' A380 configuration includes first class suites and lie-flat beds in business class.

The New York (JFK) to Auckland (AKL) route at 8,813 miles is serviced by both Air New Zealand and Qantas with their Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Qantas's low-density configuration allows for ultra-long-haul operations such as this one.

Finally, Qatar Airways operates the longest route from Doha (DOH) to Auckland (AKL), stretching over 9,011 miles using Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. Passengers can experience Qatar Airways' renowned QSuite in business class.
