Cessna SkyCourier | Wikipedia

The Cessna SkyCourier, introduced by Textron Aviation in November 2017, has achieved certification in various countries as it expands its presence in the global aviation market. The aircraft was developed to meet the demands of freight operators and regional airlines for a modern, high-capacity utility turboprop. FedEx Express played a significant role in shaping the SkyCourier's design to replace its aging fleet with more capable and fuel-efficient aircraft.

FedEx provided Textron Aviation with operational requirements that emphasized fuel efficiency, low maintenance costs, and the ability to operate from short and unpaved runways. This collaboration resulted in an initial order for 50 SkyCouriers with an option for 50 more, integrating the aircraft into FedEx’s fleet for operations in remote areas.

The SkyCourier's maiden flight took place on May 17, 2020, from Beech Field Airport in Wichita, Kansas. It marked the start of an extensive test campaign evaluating the aircraft's performance under various conditions. By mid-2021, thousands of flight test hours had led to refinements ensuring compliance with operator expectations. In March 2022, it received FAA-type certification.

Since then, certifications have been secured in several countries:

- "United States: The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted type certification to the SkyCourier in March 2022."

- "Brazil: In August 2023, the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil certified the SkyCourier."

- "Philippines: In August 2024, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines awarded the SkyCourier type certification."

- "Canada: Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) granted the SkyCourier type certification in December 2024."

These certifications highlight compliance with international safety standards as demand grows globally. The modular design allows multiple configurations for cargo or passenger use. The freighter variant accommodates three LD3 containers while carrying up to 19 passengers in its passenger configuration.

Operators such as Everts Air have incorporated SkyCouriers into their fleets due to its adaptability and cost-effectiveness. As additional certifications are pursued across Europe, Australia, and Africa, Textron Aviation aims to solidify its global footprint further.

With attributes like single-pilot operation capability and robust landing gear for unimproved surfaces, the SkyCourier is well-suited for diverse operational needs. Its performance includes a maximum cruise speed of 210 knots and a range of 940 nautical miles powered by Pratt & Whitney PT6A-65SC engines.

Textron continues marketing efforts targeting government agencies and medical evacuation services among others who value ruggedness alongside reliability offered by this versatile platform.
