Akihiko Tamura, President and CEO | Narita International Airport

Turkish Airlines has inaugurated its largest international lounge outside of Turkey at Tokyo Narita International Airport. The new lounge, located in Terminal 1 near Gate 47, initially spans 800 square meters and can accommodate up to 105 passengers. A second phase of construction will expand the lounge to cover 1,500 square meters.

The lounge is open daily from 07:30 to 21:45 and is accessible to Miles&Smiles Elite Plus, Elite, and Elite Corporate cardholders, as well as Star Alliance Gold members and business or first-class travelers. Ümit Develi, Vice President of Sales in the Far East and Oceania for Turkish Airlines, stated that the space combines Turkish hospitality with Japanese elegance, reflecting over a century of relations between Turkey and Japan. He added that it symbolizes the airline's commitment to enhancing travel experiences in the Asia-Pacific region.

The lounge offers various amenities including cuisines from Turkey and Japan. "Guests can enjoy a buffet-style selection of Turkish, Japanese, and Far Eastern cuisines," said a representative from Turkish Airlines. Additional features include relaxation areas, daybeds, a VIP room, showers, accessible restrooms, complimentary WiFi, flight information screens, and a dedicated workspace.

Following this opening at Tokyo-Narita Airport (NRT), Turkish Airlines now operates seven lounges globally. Akihiko Tamura, President and CEO of Tokyo Narita Airport, highlighted Turkish Airlines' role in expanding the airport’s international network through its connections via Istanbul Airport.

Despite having only five weekly flights in February at Narita—expected to increase to daily between March and December—the airline chose this location for its largest international lounge. The decision aligns with its strategic positioning within the Star Alliance network alongside carriers like All Nippon Airways (ANA), United Airlines, and Air China.

Data from OAG's Traffic Analyzer indicated that over 71,000 passengers traveled between Tokyo-Narita and Istanbul Airport in the year leading up to July 2024.
