Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 | Wikipedia

The Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700, tail number N230WN, is a unique aircraft known as "Colorado One." It features custom exterior paint and was the 5,000th Boeing 737 ever built. Since its debut in 2012, Colorado One has gained popularity among aviation enthusiasts and has been replicated as toys, models, and flight simulator planes.

Southwest Airlines' relationship with the Boeing 737 is longstanding. Founded at Love Field in Dallas, Texas, the airline began operations in 1967 and has primarily used Boeing 737s throughout its history. The airline's fleet currently includes several variants of the Boeing 737: MAX 8 (228), -800 (381), and -700 (207). This consistency offers advantages such as interchangeable components and reduced training requirements for maintenance crews.

Denver International Airport serves as a significant hub for Southwest Airlines. In recent years, the airline has expanded its presence there with a new Technical Operations Center capable of housing multiple aircraft. Additionally, Southwest plans to expand further with a new general-use building and cargo facility.

Mayor Michael B Hancock expressed enthusiasm about Southwest's investments in Denver: "We're excited to see Southwest Airlines continue to invest in our community and bring high-paying jobs to the region."

The creation of Colorado One symbolizes Southwest's strong ties with Denver. The aircraft's design reflects appreciation for Colorado, where Southwest is heavily involved culturally and economically. As part of this involvement, the airline became an official partner of local sports teams like the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche.

Southwest Airlines may be shifting towards a more centralized operational model at Denver International Airport while maintaining elements of its point-to-point strategy. The development projects suggest that Denver will play an increasingly important role in the airline's future operations.
