American Airlines has announced plans to increase its flights on the popular business route between New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). This decision comes shortly after JetBlue revealed its intention to exit the same route. The Texas-based airline will now offer up to eight daily flights on weekdays and up to four on weekends starting May 5.

The increased service will be operated using dual-cabin regional jets, providing passengers with first-class seating options. A spokesperson for American Airlines stated, "American is continuously evaluating our network to suit the needs of customers who are increasingly looking for more convenient flights between New York and Boston."

Prior to this change, American operated up to four daily flights on this route. JetBlue's recent strategic shift under its JetForward plan has led it to focus more on leisure travel from the Northeast and South Florida, leading to its withdrawal from this corridor.

Historically, the LGA-BOS route has been significant for business travelers. It began as a shuttle service in the 1960s but saw American temporarily withdraw in January 2022 when JetBlue took over under their former Northeast Alliance. This alliance allowed shared benefits for passengers flying between New York and Boston until it was disbanded in 2023.

Now, with JetBlue's departure, American is stepping back into a dominant position on this key route. However, questions remain about how American will manage airport slots at LGA, one of the most capacity-constrained airports in the nation.
