Ryan Green, Executive Vice President at Southwest | Official Website

Southwest Airlines has embarked on its first international partnership by collaborating with Icelandair. This new alliance, which took effect recently, allows customers to book connecting flights between Southwest’s domestic routes and Icelandair’s European destinations. The interline agreement represents a significant step for Southwest as it enters the realm of international partnerships.

Ryan Green, Executive Vice President at Southwest, expressed appreciation for Icelandair's guidance in building this program. He noted that the partnership provides customers access to new destinations and travel experiences focused on hospitality and value.

Passengers can now plan itineraries starting with Southwest flights from various American cities, connecting seamlessly to Icelandair flights bound for Keflavik International Airport in Reykjavik, and onward to other European locations.

Icelandair's Chief Commercial Officer, Tómas Ingason, welcomed the partnership with enthusiasm. He stated that the collaboration would open new connections for their customers through Southwest's extensive North American network while offering Southwest passengers access to Iceland and Europe.

Currently, bookings under this agreement are available through Icelandair's website and select third-party platforms. However, these options are not yet accessible via Southwest's website. The airline plans to integrate these options into its booking system by 2026 when it transitions to assigned seating.

Southwest also confirmed plans to expand this collaboration to additional hubs like Denver International Airport and Nashville Airport by summer 2025. Initially available only at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, this expansion will facilitate more US travelers' access to Iceland and beyond.
