Recent analysis reveals that Marriott Bonvoy points have decreased in value since the introduction of dynamic pricing. The study, which revisited a 2022 analysis, examined nearly 15,000 data points across various properties within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio. It found that more than two-thirds of the 51 properties studied now offer lower average redemption values.

The overall decrease in value is significant, with an average reduction of over 15%, bringing the current valuation to 0.7 cents per point. This decline has been attributed to increased award rates at several Marriott properties, alongside rising paid rates.

A spokesperson for Marriott International commented on these findings: "With more than 9,000 hotels and demand that fluctuates across the year, dynamic pricing for hotel redemptions at times may result in higher redemption costs for hotels in high-demand markets. It also means that there are always great deals available."

The study highlighted regional trends indicating varying impacts on point valuations. U.S. mainland hotels experienced a decrease of about 10%, while Hawaiian hotels saw an even greater drop of 18.2%. High-end international resorts faced a smaller decline of approximately 9.86%.

European hotels were hit hardest by recent pricing changes, with a substantial decrease of 28.4% in value. Asian hotels also saw a notable decline averaging around 21.6%.

Despite these decreases, some properties still offer valuable redemption opportunities for Marriott Bonvoy members. For instance, certain high-end international resorts and select U.S.-based properties continue to provide relatively good value for points.

The spokesperson further noted the popularity of non-hotel redemptions available through the program: "These include home rentals, yachts, home retail products, and VIP access to incredible experiences — including Michelin star dining, A-list music performances, and high-profile sporting events."

Overall, this analysis suggests that while some opportunities remain to maximize point usage effectively, careful consideration is required when planning stays using Marriott Bonvoy points under the current dynamic pricing model.
