Delta Plane Crash | CNN

Deborah Flint, CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), described the Delta Air Lines jet crash at Toronto's Pearson Airport as a "remarkable survival event." Flint made this statement during a press briefing on February 17.

"We are very grateful there was no loss of life and relatively minor injuries," said Flint.

An aviation incident occurred at Toronto's Pearson Airport when a Delta Air Lines jet flipped upside down upon landing. The flight from Minneapolis landed during gusty conditions, with winds reaching up to 40 mph, and overturned on the runway at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025. Despite the crash, all 80 passengers and crew members survived, with injuries reported as relatively minor, according to the Associated Press.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash. Canadian authorities confirmed to the BBC that the runway was dry and no cross-wind conditions were present at the time. An air traffic control recording revealed a warning about a potential air flow "bump" in the glide path shortly before the crash. John Cox, CEO of aviation safety consulting firm Safety Operating Systems, said: "So it was windy. But the airplanes are designed and certified to handle that."

Passengers recounted terrifying moments as the plane overturned. Peter Koukov told CNN: "We were upside down hanging like bats," describing how passengers released their seatbelts and fell onto the ceiling. Koukov and fellow passengers worked together to assist a mother and child in evacuating the aircraft. He added: "I didn't care how cold it was, didn't care how far I had to walk, how long I had to stand — all of us just wanted to be out of the aircraft."

According to GTAA's official website, Flint has served as CEO since 2020, overseeing operations at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada’s busiest airport. She previously held leadership positions at Los Angeles World Airports.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Delta Air Lines is one of the largest global carriers with a fleet of more than 900 aircraft. According to its official website, Delta serves over 275 destinations across six continents while emphasizing safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
