Founded in 2013 by Kenny Dichter, the company offers charter and membership options for private flying, enabling travel to numerous destinations worldwide. The company emphasizes passenger safety, flexibility, and operational excellence.

The Wheels Up mobile application facilitates easy booking and management of flights, providing access to a marketplace of over 1,500 private aircraft. Customers can earn rewards with every flight booked through the platform. Delta Air Lines holds a 20% share in Wheels Up, which enhances customer value by allowing them to earn Delta's SkyMiles Medallion Status based on qualifying spend with Wheels Up. The company states that “Our partnership with Delta provides Wheels Up charter customers with value that is unmatched elsewhere within the aviation industry.”

Memberships are available for individuals starting at $100,000 and for enterprises starting at $250,000. In its early stages, Wheels Up acquired over 100 Beechcraft King Air 350i turboprops valued at $1.4 billion to serve diverse markets effectively. The fleet has since expanded to include additional King Air aircraft and refurbished Cessna Citation jets.

The company aims to make private flying more affordable through various partnerships and programs such as Wheel Up Connect launched in 2018.
