Garret Graves, chairman of the Aviation Subcommittee of T&I | Official Website

The United States House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) has scheduled a hearing about the country’s air traffic control (ATC) system, including its infrastructure and staffing.

On March 5, T&I will hold a hearing titled ‘America Builds: Air Traffic Control System Infrastructure and Staffing,’ continuing the ‘America Builds’ hearing series that the committee resumed since the newly elected representatives began working in the 119th Congress.

While T&I’s page about the hearing did not include a list of potential witnesses who would testify at the event, Reuters reported that stakeholders could include Airlines for America (A4A), General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), Government Accountability Office (GOA), National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), and Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS).

Before the 118th Congress ended its tenure, Garret Graves, chairman of the Aviation Subcommittee of T&I, said it was critical for American leadership, aviation, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to step up and lead on integrating new aviation technology.

Graves’ prepared remarks delivered before the 'FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024: Stakeholder Perspectives on Implementation’ hearing in December 2024 alleged that "the FAA has often looked for every reason to say ‘no’ to new technologies 'when it actually has every reason to say ‘yes.’'

"Other countries sense a weakness right now; they are circling like vultures to permanently shut this country out of a golden era of aviation. "Our bill provides a road map to respond to this challenge," Graves said. "But unless the FAA starts the car, a road map is only that: a road map. "

During another December hearing titled 'US Air Traffic Control Systems, Personnel, and Safety,' Jason Ambrosi, president of Air Line Pilots Association International (ALPA), testified that while Congress had provided funding for FAA there remained "a significant shortfall in numerous mainten ance and modernization efforts.
