Lufthansa is targeting British Airways and Iberia elite members with a Miles & More status match offer, following changes to British Airways' loyalty program that have led to an exodus of frequent flyers. The German national airline's latest initiative aims to attract these members through a straightforward application process.

As detailed by Lufthansa, elite members from the British Airways Executive Club (soon to be renamed The British Airways Club) and Iberia Plus loyalty programs can "apply in 60 seconds" for the status match via a simple form on its website. Depending on their membership tiers, applicants will receive either Frequent Traveller or Senator status in Lufthansa's Miles & More.

To participate in the status match initiative, BA and Iberia Plus members must first sign up for Miles & More if they haven't already. They then need to provide their account number for this program and their existing loyalty membership via the online form. Participants are also required to submit a contact email address, with Lufthansa noting that "you may be requested to provide and complete an identity check, including your passport or driver's license," as part of the process.

Lufthansa states that participants "will be informed within three days after submitting the requested information whether your status match has been approved." However, it may take up to ten business days until the upgraded status is reflected in their Miles & More customer account. The one-time fee for taking part in this program is €99 ($103).

While no fixed timescales are provided regarding the validity of this offer, Lufthansa mentions that it "is available for a limited time only" and could "end at any time at the discretion of Lufthansa."

The perks associated with this initiative vary based on participants' current loyalty statuses. Silver members of British Airways Executive Club and Plata members of Iberia Plus will be placed into the Frequent Traveller tier, which includes access to business class lounges, business class check-in with Miles & More airline partners, increased baggage allowance with golf equipment included.

Meanwhile, Gold, Gold Guest List, and Premier members of British Airways Executive Club along with Oro, Platino, Infinita, and Infinita Prime tiers from Iberia Plus will gain access to Lufthansa's Senator tier through this scheme. Benefits include access to higher-tier Senator and Star Gold lounges as well as first-class premium check-in services fast-track access priority boarding an increased baggage allowance.
