Delta SkyMiles' elite status program offers various perks to its loyal and high-spending customers. As an airline with a significant focus on business travelers, rewarding this niche market is crucial for revenue generation.

Delta's Medallion status is awarded to those who fly frequently with the airline within a calendar year, unlocking various benefits associated with each tier of the program. One of the entry-level tiers, Silver Medallion status, provides several advantages and can be attained by flying a few times per year with Delta and using the airline's cobranded credit cards.

Qualification for Silver Medallion status requires earning 5,000 Medallion Qualifying Dollars (MQDs). This can be achieved by spending approximately $5,000 on Delta Air Lines tickets or through boosts provided by Delta Air Lines credit cards. For instance, holders of the Delta SkyMiles Platinum card, which costs $350 annually, receive a 2,500 MQD head start and earn additional MQDs for spending on the card.

Alternatively, silver status can be inherited from friends or family members who hold Diamond or Platinum Medallion memberships.

Silver Medallion members benefit from accelerated mile accumulation, earning seven SkyMiles per dollar spent compared to five miles for standard members. This allows them to book award flights more quickly.

Complimentary upgrades are also available to Silver Medallion members. They can join upgrade lists for first class and Delta Comfort+ up to 24 hours before departure and access Domestic Delta One seat upgrades on the day of departure.

Pre-departure benefits include one free checked bag on Delta flights and partner airline flights marketed by Delta—a perk that extends to up to eight travel companions. Additionally, Silver Medallion members enjoy priority check- in and boarding as well as preferred pricing for CLEAR Plus membership, which offers expedited airport security screening.

Beyond flight-related perks, Silver Medallion members earn benefits with car rental company Hertz, such as earning five Delta miles per dollar spent on car bookings and receiving complimentary Hertz Five Star Status.

Other advantages include priority waitlist status on paid flights, customized bag tags, a $250 discount on vacation packages with Delta Air Lines, and access to priority customer service lines.

Silver Medallion members also enjoy benefits across SkyTeam partners through their SkyTeam Elite status. These include priority reservation waitlists, check-in counters at global airports, priority boarding for all SkyTeam flights, extra baggage allowance fees waived in some cases, and potential cabin upgrades when flying with Aeromexico.
