After two years of meticulous restoration and renovation, one of Madrid's iconic hotels has a new design complementing its original, historic grandeur — and a brand-new flag waving over the storied property. Introducing The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid.

Previously the Westin Palace, Madrid, the hotel, which dates back to 1912, retired its Westin identity and joined The Luxury Collection, "a curated ensemble of the world's most iconic hotels that truly define their destinations," as described by Marriott.

Conveniently located between Plaza Mayor and the Prado museum in the Barrio de las Letras, The Palace's exterior was revived by Ruiz Larrea Arquitectura, which restored the hotel's original facade and uncovered floral elements that had been previously hidden. The firm's other notable work includes the Madrid Edition.

The building's stained glass and iron dome, originally designed in 1912 by Eduardo Ferrés i Puig and made up of 1,875 glass panes, was also reimagined, requiring over 100 specialists to dismantle and restore it.

Lázaro Rosa-Violán designed The Luxury Collection hotel's new blend of "classic luxury with contemporary design" interiors. These designs pay tribute to some of the greats who have stayed there including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Mata Hari and Ernest Hemingway. Design elements include optical illusions hidden in carpets and art around the hotel, hand-painted wallpapers and bathroom mosaics representing Madrid's Royal Botanical Gardens.

The hotel has 470 rooms and suites starting from deluxe rooms at 344 square feet to majestic suites facing the Neptuno Fountain.

Underneath the refurbished dome is La Cupula an all-day restaurant and cocktail bar serving dishes like Julio Camba's steak tartare and Pablo Picasso's Waldorf salad.

27 Club celebrates Generation '27 a group of writers and artists who defined their time in the 1920s by doubling as a cocktail bar and living museum. Guests can enjoy cocktails like Whisky Sour 1927 while perusing original guest books or admiring over seventy illustrations created by Lázaro Rosa-Violán inspired by historical archives.

Rates at The Palace start at about $484 per night. Marriott Bonvoy members can book from 73,000 points per night.
