Emirates has introduced a new telemedicine kit developed in collaboration with Parsys, aiming to enhance medical support for inflight customers. The yearlong partnership resulted in the creation of a bespoke inflight tool that prioritizes efficiency, reliability, and safety.

The new system comprises the Parsys Telemedicine Kit for Emirates and the Parsys Cloud. This integrated, portable telemedicine station enables cabin crew to collect vital signs and transmit them to Emirates’ Ground Medical Support team in Dubai, available around the clock. The kit includes devices such as a pulse oximeter, thermometer, blood pressure monitor, glucometer, and electrocardiogram (ECG).

Emirates customers requiring medical support onboard can have their vital signs automatically transmitted via Bluetooth to the Medcapture device, a tablet with customized software aligned with Emirates’ medical procedures. Its intuitive design allows crew members to operate it efficiently even under challenging conditions and facilitates real-time communication with ground- based doctors for immediate expert advice.

The Parsys Cloud platform ensures safe and reliable data transmission between inflight crews and ground medical teams while complying with data protection regulations.

The implementation of these kits has already proven successful in several cases. During a recent flight to Lyon, France, an elderly passenger suffered a cardiovascular emergency. Emirates’ cabin crew promptly provided oxygen and used the Parsys MedCapture device to share her vital signs with the Ground Medical Support team. Real-time communication through the Parsys Cloud allowed for effective management of the situation by coordinating seamlessly between crew members and medical experts.

Medical training is paramount at Emirates; new cabin crew undergo eight weeks of intensive 'ab-initio' training covering various courses including critical medical response training. Lessons are taught using practical simulations as well as classroom and online learning methods.

Emirates cabin crew receive extensive training on handling inflight emergencies such as fainting spells or allergic reactions along with life- saving skills like CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. Certified aviation first aid instructors lead this comprehensive training at the Emirates Cabin Crew Training Centre in Dubai.

Crew knowledge is tested annually through recurrent training sessions which include online courses and practical assessments for CPR, AED usage, severe bleeding management among others.
