The Airbus A320, a staple in commercial aviation akin to the Boeing 737-800, continues to be favored for its balanced trip and seat-mile costs. This economic efficiency makes it particularly popular among low-cost and ultra-low-cost carriers.

As of March 2025, more than 38 years after its inaugural flight in February 1987, the A320 is set to operate approximately 21,400 daily services worldwide. This translates to about 890 flights an hour or roughly 15 flights every minute. The combined operations of the A320ceo and A320neo variants will account for nearly a quarter of global flights, serving over 200 airlines across more than 1,500 airports.

In March 2025, the world's oldest active A320s are predominantly found in South Africa and North America. According to data from ch-aviation and other sources, the three oldest active A320s are registered in South Africa and are operated by Global Aviation for Lift.

One of these is the ZS-GAL, which as of March 20 stands at .57 years old. This aircraft has been consistently flying between Cape Town and Johannesburg since February.

North America also hosts some of these veteran planes with Air Canada and Delta Airlines maintaining older models in their fleets. Notably,"It is amusing, at least to me, that Delta's two A320 entries are registered N319US and N321US."

Until recently, Jordan Aviation's JY-JAC held the title for the oldest active A320. This plane first took to the skies in January . It was placed into storage in Amman on March , but may yet return to service.

The following list details some of these ancient aircraft:

- ZS-GAL (Lift/Global Aviation): . years

This average age remains unchanged despite new arrivals and retirements within their fleet. The older average age can be attributed largely to their A s which have an average age of years among other models like the ERs also averaging at years each They retired five A s from July through March leaving remaining including one inherited from Northwest Airlines designated as having seats split between economy Comfort plus and first-class sections
