On March 30, northern carriers will switch to summer schedules based on IATA slot seasons. As such, the UK--like many nations--will gain various new long- haul links on or around this date. Many other services will begin later in the season when demand and fares are higher.

The article relates to new UK routes or those returning after a long absence with a maximum block time of seven hours. It does not include summer seasonal resumptions or flights beginning from April onwards.

After a long pandemic-driven absence, the Canadian and UK capitals will have nonstop flights for the first time in five years because Air Canada is returning to the market. Canada's flag carrier is Heathrow's joint-fourth- largest foreign long-haul carrier. With Ottawa's return, it plans up to nine daily summer flights to six Canadian cities.

On March 31, AC889 will leave Heathrow at 14:05 and get to Ottawa at 16:25 local time. Returning, AC888 will depart at 18:55 and arrive in Europe at 06:30+1. The frequency has fallen from daily to four weekly flights.

Starting on March 30:

- Gulf Air: Bahrain to Gatwick - Three weekly flights using a Boeing Dreamliner

- Virgin Atlantic: Heathrow to Riyadh - Daily flights using an A330-900

- Virgin Atlantic: Heathrow to Toronto - Daily flights using a Boeing Dreamliner

Starting on March 31:

- Air Canada: Ottawa to Heathrow - Four weekly flights using a Boeing Dreamliner

- Wizz Air: Gatwick to Jeddah - Daily flights using an A321XLR

With Virgin's arrival, Heathrow-Toronto will have three carriers--Air Canada, BA, and Virgin--for the first time since 2011 when Air Transat pulled out. Four carriers operated between 2008 and 2010 when Air India joined Air Canada, BA, and Air Transat.
