A 55-year-old woman from the Dominican Republic was arrested at Miami International Airport after making a bomb joke before her flight on March 23. This incident follows a similar case involving a 66-year-old man who was also detained for making a bomb joke at the same airport.

According to reports by 7News, Carmen Rosa Solislerqux, identified as a swimming instructor from Santo Domingo, told an airport employee that she had a bomb in her bag. The arrest report indicates that she was taken into custody around 7:30 pm after the employee alerted authorities. Solislerqux reportedly claimed she was "only joking" when informed about the seriousness of such statements at an airport. K-9 units searched her bags and found no explosives. She was subsequently arrested and transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Solislerqux's arrest occurred shortly after midnight on Monday morning, but it remains unclear if she is still in custody. Under Florida law, making a false bomb threat is classified as a second-degree felony.

In February 2025, Javier Salazar, a Mexican national aged 66, faced similar charges after joking about carrying a bomb while checking in for his flight at Miami International Airport. Like Solislerqux, Salazar insisted he was joking once informed of the severity of his statement. No explosives were discovered in his luggage following searches by K-9 units.

The aviation industry does not take bomb threats lightly due to their potential impact on safety and operations. These incidents can lead to significant costs and disruptions for airlines and passengers alike. In one notable case from 2014, a Venezuelan man faced an $89,000 fine after his bomb joke led to part of Miami International Airport being closed for several hours.

Authorities have various protocols in place to manage such threats effectively. If deemed serious enough, evacuations may be ordered as seen in August 2024 when Paris Orly Airport underwent evacuation following an anonymous bomb threat call.
