On March 20, 2025, a Hong Kong Airlines flight traveling from Hangzhou to Hong Kong was forced to make an emergency landing in Fuzhou due to a fire that broke out in an overhead compartment. The incident is believed to have been caused by an overheated portable charging device, such as a power bank. Thanks to the professionalism and preparedness of the crew and passengers, the situation was swiftly contained.

The Airbus A320, which was carrying 160 passengers and eight crew members, diverted to Fuzhou Changle International Airport and landed safely. Passengers and flight attendants quickly responded by using water and juice to extinguish the flames. As a result of their actions, no injuries were reported, and a replacement flight was arranged for travelers to reach their final destination.

"This event serves as a reminder of the potential hazards posed by portable electronic devices on flights," according to reports. It also emphasizes "the importance of adhering to airline safety protocols." Hong Kong Airlines holds a seven-star safety rating due to its strict safety procedures, well-trained crew, and commitment to passenger security. The airline has consistently maintained an impeccable safety record, ensuring that incidents are managed efficiently.
