Alaska Airlines is planning to introduce flights to Europe in 2026 following its merger with Hawaiian Airlines, which now allows it access to long-haul aircraft. As a result of this expansion, the airline is considering multiple European destinations. The airline has previously announced service expansions to Asia, including new routes from Seattle to Seoul and Tokyo Narita using Hawaiian's Airbus A330 fleet.

Information from ch-aviation shows Alaska Airlines has a total of 25 Airbus A330-200 airplanes and two Boeing 787-9s, along with 10 more Dreamliners on the way. These aircraft will support the airline's growth from its hubs in Honolulu and Seattle. According to Alaska Airlines’ investor presentation, European routes being considered from Seattle include London, Paris, and Rome.

Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci remarked earlier this week, "Europe is definitely on the radar for 2026," according to a Skift report from the Wings Club in New York.

An analysis of market demand reveals strong interest in these destinations. Data indicates a considerable number of passengers travel between Seattle and these European cities, with London being the highest-demand route at 250,000 passengers, followed by Paris at 102,000, and Rome at 47,000. Competing airlines, such as Virgin Atlantic and British Airways, already offer flights between these locations and Seattle.

Delta Air Lines is noted as the major competitor, having a significant presence in Seattle. Despite this competition, Ben Minicucci noted, "Our company can go toe-to-toe with anyone."

In addition to its European plans, Alaska Airlines aims to build on its growth strategy called the AlaskaAccelerate plan, focusing on its Seattle, Portland, and San Diego hubs. This includes international routes beyond Europe to include destinations in Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific through its network and the oneworld Alliance.

The new Asian routes to Tokyo and Seoul reveal Alaska Airlines’ ambition to increase its global connectivity and capitalize on the high demand for premium travel.
