With the commencement of the 2025 summer flight schedule, ITA Airways has seamlessly integrated into the Lufthansa Group terminals in Frankfurt and Munich. This development signifies a significant step in the ongoing incorporation of the Italian airline into the Lufthansa Group, promising shorter transfer times for passengers. All ITA Airways flights will now be managed within the Lufthansa Group terminals at these hubs.

In Frankfurt, ITA Airways has relocated from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, home of the Lufthansa Group. Here, passengers will experience reduced transfer times thanks to the move to gate areas A and B. The proximity to the Deutsche Bahn long-distance train station at Terminal 1 will further facilitate convenient travel connections for passengers.

Similarly, in Munich, ITA Airways has transitioned from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 and its satellite, an area operated as a joint venture between Lufthansa and Munich Airport. This terminal boasts multiple five-star ratings from Skytrax.

Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, highlighted the advantages of this transition: “This move is an important milestone in the integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group. Our customers will be able to transfer faster and more comfortably thanks to shorter distances and will have more comfort throughout their entire journey."

At other Lufthansa Group hubs, such as Brussels, Rome, Vienna, and Zurich, the integration is already complete. Passengers in Zurich, for instance, already enjoy seamless transfer processes between SWISS and ITA Airways. Furthermore, check-in desks have been strategically positioned in close proximity at most shared airports.

The integration also introduces a joint codeshare flight initiative between ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group, effective with the newly launched summer flight schedule. This alliance offers passengers a comprehensive network of over 100 new codeshare connections across Europe. Destinations in Italy and beyond are now accessible through a unified booking system. More than 50,000 combination tickets have already been sold within the initial three weeks.

Effective immediately, ITA Airways passengers are granted access to approximately 130 lounges associated with the Lufthansa Group and its partners, with reciprocal access available to Lufthansa Group travelers in ITA Airways lounges. Frequent flyers have been enjoying expanded privileges since February 2025. Members of the Miles & More program and Volare customers have reciprocal earning and redemption opportunities for miles and points.
