Southwest Airlines has announced the addition of two new routes, expanding its network as it continues its organizational restructuring. The new routes will include nonstop service from Will Rogers International Airport (OKC) in Oklahoma City to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and from Eppley Airfield (OMA) in Omaha, Nebraska, to San Diego International Airport (SAN). These services will operate during the busy holiday period from Thanksgiving to New Year's, targeting passengers visiting family during this time.

Additionally, Southwest will offer service from Nashville International Airport (BNA) to El Paso Airport (ELP) during the Thanksgiving period. The new Oklahoma City to Los Angeles route comes on the heels of the airport's recent attention-garnering international route to Cancun International Airport (CUN). This nonstop route increases connectivity to the West Coast, essential during peak holiday months.

Southwest's cautious expansion strategy involves connecting smaller-market cities with larger hubs. The new routes, as reported by The Points Guy, follow February's addition of routes, further illustrating this methodical growth approach. Data from aviation analytics firm Cirium reveals that the Oklahoma City to Los Angeles route will be operated using multiple Boeing 737 variants, with flights departing Oklahoma City at 7:10 PM and arriving in Los Angeles at 8:40 PM. Return flights will leave Los Angeles at 12:35 PM, landing in Oklahoma City at 5:25 PM. The carrier has 38 flights planned on this route over three months.

The same Boeing 737 models will operate the Omaha to San Diego route. Outbound flights will depart San Diego at 11:35 AM, with an estimated arrival in Nebraska at 4:55 PM. Return services leave Omaha at 1:45 PM, reaching San Diego at 3:10 PM. The airline is slated to operate 38 routes on this service through the peak winter period.

According to the airline's details, Southwest Airlines, founded in 1967 and led by CEO Robert Jordan, is a low-cost carrier with several operation hubs, including Los Angeles International Airport and Denver International Airport.
