Lufthansa plans to begin deploying its Airbus A350-900 aircraft from Frankfurt to Denver and Seattle, starting May 1 and July 1, respectively. The announcement, made on April 1, comes as a result of new aircraft delivery delays. Lufthansa has already utilized four A350-900s for flights from Frankfurt to Seoul and Shanghai.

Jens Ritter, the CEO of Lufthansa, stated, "Over the next 36 months, Lufthansa is expecting the largest fleet renewal in its history. By the end of 2027, 61 new aircraft are scheduled to be added to the fleet. This means an average of one new aircraft every two weeks."

The deployment of the A350-900s on routes to Seoul and Shanghai marks a shift from the quadjet Boeing 747s, which operated these flights previously. While flights to Seoul are now exclusively served by the A350-900, the Shanghai route alternates between the A350-900 and the A340-600. The A350-900 aircraft feature 293 seats, configured with business, premium economy, and economy classes.

These changes are part of Lufthansa's adjustment to cope with fleet constraints while eagerly awaiting the arrival of new long-haul aircraft. The German airline will operate its fleet from Munich to these destinations and also include the A350s, persistently using the A380 for its Denver service from April 30.

Cirium’s data shows that the A350-900s previously flew to Denver and Seattle from May to October 2021 and briefly again in January 2022. Lufthansa plans to continue with the 293-seat configuration for flights to Denver and Seattle this summer.

The series of adjustments indicate Lufthansa's efforts to manage its network flexibly until its new aircraft join the fleet, underlining the airline's commitment to maintaining an efficient long-haul service to the U.S.
