Vueling Airlines, a prominent low-cost airline operating out of Spain and part of the International Airlines Group (IAG), is set to resume flying its Airbus A321neo aircraft this coming July. After being grounded since late 2024, these aircraft will now be employed on various routes from Barcelona-El Prat Airport, with a total of 40 weekly departures.

According to AeroRoutes, confirmed by Cirium’s Diio Mi airline planning tool, 17 of these weekly flights will serve domestic destinations across Spain. The routes cover airports such as Lanzarote (ACE), Fuerteventura (FUE), Gran Canaria (LPA), Menorca (MAH), Palma de Mallorca (PMI), and Seville (SVQ). Among these, the Barcelona to Seville route will see the most activity, with Vueling offering six weekly flights. The airline will also conduct flights from Barcelona to the airports in the Canary Islands, with each receiving two weekly departures.

For flights to the Balearic Islands, Vueling will operate five weekly flights, divided between Palma de Mallorca and Menorca.

Vueling’s international network from Barcelona will expand to cover 13 European destinations. From Brussels (BRU), Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG), Hamburg (HAM), and Berlin Brandenburg (BER), the A321neo will make multiple appearances throughout the week. Other destinations, including Amsterdam (AMS), Dublin (DUB), Rome (FCO), and London Gatwick (LGW), will see weekly service.

Notably, the 2024 international routes were limited, focusing primarily on operations from Paris Orly Airport (ORY) to destinations, including London and Marrakesh.

The decision to park the A321neo aircraft followed a global issue with the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines, prompting the removal and inspection of certain engines due to a manufacturing defect. As noted in IAG’s annual report, Vueling procured additional A320ceo aircraft to compensate for the affected A321neos. The airline’s CEO also mentioned how these aircraft deliveries were part of the broader strategy to manage maintenance challenges related to the engine issue.

Vueling's Airbus A321neo aircraft, registered as EC-NYC, EC-NYD, EC-NYE, and EC-NYF, had been parked since late 2024 at Madrid Barajas Airport.
