KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced that it will not operate its flights between Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport (AMS) and Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport (MSP) during the upcoming winter season. This marks a continuation of the decision made for the 2024/2025 winter period. The transatlantic route will be suspended from November 2025 through March 2026, as reported by aviation analytics firm Cirium. The airline's reasoning for removing these flights from its winter schedule remains undisclosed. A request for comment has been made to KLM by Simple Flying.

The Dutch carrier initially planned to operate three weekly flights using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, which have a capacity of 275 passengers in a four-class cabin layout. As noted by Kyle Potter, editor of Thrifty Traveler, in a social media post dated March 22, 2025, KLM's move to drop these winter flights becomes clear yet again for the 2025/2026 schedule.

Despite this winter cutback, KLM resumed the Amsterdam-Minneapolis route for the summer season starting March 30, 2025. The service will continue through October 2025, with varying flight frequencies each month and plans to resume in March 2026 following the end of the winter period.

In contrast, Delta Air Lines continues its nonstop direct service on the same route throughout the year. The Atlanta-based airline operates a mixed fleet, maintaining 93 monthly flights from July through October 2025 with a total of 26,970 available seats. Come November 2025, Delta will decrease flight frequencies and switch to using its Airbus A330neos and A330-300s for the route. The airline boasts a varied fleet, with its Airbus A350-900s accommodating 306 passengers, while the A330neos and A330-300s have different passenger capacities.

KLM's decision comes amid staffing challenges, which have been cited as potentially impacting the airline's ability to operate all long-haul flights during the summer. Delta, with a robust presence on the route, remains a significant player in the Amsterdam to Minneapolis market.
