Yet another airline is set to exit the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport market. Discover Airlines has announced its intention to remove the nonstop service between Frankfurt Airport and Minneapolis, a route introduced only last autumn. Starting October 24, 2025, passengers will no longer have a direct flight to Frankfurt and will need to rely on connecting flights.

Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport offers nonstop flights to over 160 international destinations, marking an increase from 156 in the previous year. The airport serves as a significant hub for Delta Air Lines and Sun Country Airlines.

Discover Airlines' decision to halt the route comes after Lufthansa passed the service to its subsidiary. Initially, this service was set to start on May 2, with flight days varying and plans to offer daily services, occasionally providing multiple flights. Discover Airlines intends to operate between 9,000 to 10,000 seats monthly using Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A330-200 jets.

Discover Airlines, formerly known as Eurowings Discover, operates as a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. The airline specializes in leisure travel with bases in Frankfurt and Munich, serving destinations across North America, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Lufthansa's decision not to transfer this route to its subsidiary suggests the airline aimed to cater to vacationers rather than business travelers. Discover Airlines does not offer the direct aisle access lie-flat business class seats preferred by business travelers. The decision reflects a strategy to focus on leisure travelers during the summer, acknowledging economic conditions affecting US consumer spending in Europe.
