Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) is preparing to reveal a major development for its business-class cabin. Executives hinted at the upcoming announcement on Wednesday, outlining that the airline will first roll out new premium economy seats.

These premium economy seats were introduced by the Tokyo-based Star Alliance member during a demonstration event. The latest seats, designed by seat maker Recaro, boast wide cushions and a significant 9 inches of recline. "It's a perfect package," said Hiro Miyagawa, ANA executive vice president, at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany. Miyagawa further noted, "It's a combination of the seat pitch, the reclining, and also the high-class service that we provide."

The new seats feature adjustable headrests, privacy wings, leg rests, and footrests, providing users a level of comfort distinct from coach options. The premium economy seating will be installed in a 2-3-2 configuration with a 40-inch pitch. Additional features include 15.6-inch touchscreen entertainment centers with capabilities for Bluetooth headphones, along with AC, USB-A, and USB-C power outlets.

According to Miyagawa, these features will first appear on three new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets set to arrive in 2026. The airline also plans to retrofit 16 more aircraft with these seats, although supply chain issues may affect the timetable.

An update to the business-class cabin is also anticipated. Executives suggest it may mirror the high-end offerings on ANA's Boeing 777-300ER jets, known as "The Room." However, specific details were not revealed. "Yes, it's going to be a similar thing, I would say, yes," Miyagawa hinted.

Currently, ANA operates its Dreamliner fleet between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and five U.S. cities and from Narita International Airport to Los Angeles. As the airline expands its aircraft offerings, these updates may lead to more travel redemption opportunities.

Points and miles enthusiasts can book ANA flights with airline partners or transfer American Express Membership Rewards points. Additionally, Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club program supports transfers from several issuers.

ANA also unveiled new economy seats, part of what Miyagawa describes as a "total change" for the aircraft. These seats will offer more recline and larger seatback screens with Bluetooth connectivity.
