Qantas Boeing 787 Dreamliner | Official Website

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, known for its long-range capabilities, regularly serves Australia's Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, the busiest in the country. An analysis by aviation analytics company Cirium reveals that in April, eight airlines will operate routes of 5,000 miles (4,345 NM) or longer from Sydney using this aircraft, predominantly the 787-9 variant. A few routes will utilize the slightly smaller 787-8 variant.

Qantas is a major operator with its 787 Dreamliner fleet connecting Sydney to multiple long-distance destinations in North America, Europe, and South America. Notably, Qantas' direct flight to Dallas/Fort Worth spans 7,444 NM (13,895 km). It also runs a lengthy two-segment service to Paris Charles de Gaulle via Perth covering 8,964 NM (16,601 km), and a one-stop route to New York JFK through Auckland at 8,564 NM (15,808 km).

Air China operates flights from Beijing to Sydney with its 787-9s over a distance of 4,823 NM (8,934 km), while Air India's daily service from Delhi spans 5,627 NM (10,421 km). British Airways covers the longest 787 route technically with its service via Singapore to London, totaling 8,993 NM (16,651 km).

Etihad Airways provides a three-times-weekly service from Abu Dhabi using its 787-9, covering 6,510 NM (12,054 km). Jetstar, part of the Qantas Group, operates two long 787-8 routes from Sydney to Honolulu and Seoul Incheon.

LATAM connects Sydney to Santiago, a route it shares with Qantas, measuring 6,135 NM (11,363 km). United Airlines runs a daily nonstop service to Los Angeles that spans 6,505 NM (12,048 km).

Australia features prominently in ultra-long-haul connections, with Qantas' longest nonstop Dreamliner flight from Perth to London, measuring 7,828 NM (14,499 km). The airline's 'Project Sunrise' initiative aims to establish a direct Sydney-London route, which will extend to 9,185 NM (17,011 km), using new Airbus A350-1000ULRs.

The 787 Dreamliner series, which Boeing debuted in 2004, has garnered nearly 2,000 orders across its three variants, with the 787-9 being a popular choice for long-haul flights like those from Sydney.
