Denver International Airport is notable for its vast size and heavy passenger traffic, ranking as the largest airport by land area in the Western Hemisphere and the second-largest worldwide. Throughout 2024, the airport processed over 82 million passengers, positioning it as one of the United States' busiest.

United Airlines, a key player at Denver International Airport, operates a variety of flights, including services to North America and international destinations in Europe and Asia. For regional routes, United relies on its regional subsidiary, United Express, which uses the Embraer E175 aircraft. SkyWest Airlines operates these flights for United Express.

The Embraer E175 has seen a long production life since its commercial debut with Air Canada in 2005, as restrictions on newer variants, like the E175-E2, limit their use by some US airlines. The aircraft accommodates 76 passengers and is crewed by four staff members, including two pilots.
