Air New Zealand has launched its first new cabin crew uniform in 14 years. Designed by fashion designer Emilia Wickstead, who hails from New Zealand, the uniforms integrate cultural elements and heritage. Wickstead, known for creations worn by public figures like the Princess of Wales and Meghan Markle, worked with Māori tattoo artist Te Rangitu Netana. This collaboration has led to uniforms featuring Māori patterns such as kōwhai and purapura whetū, which reflect national pride.

The uniforms also include an embroidered Huia feather on manager uniforms, a symbol historically worn by Māori chiefs, which can be preserved by managers after retirement.

The uniforms are composed of sustainable materials—including recycled polyester, organic cotton, and merino wool—echoing Air New Zealand’s commitment to environmental responsibility. They include a variety of clothing items, like dresses, shirts, trench coats, and the 'ie faitaga,' which is a traditional garment for Pacific Island men, aiming to serve a diverse workforce.

Greg Foran, CEO of Air New Zealand, stated that the new uniforms "are a reflection of the airline's values of innovation, cultural pride, and individuality." They will undergo trials on flights starting in May 2025, with a complete rollout planned for 2026 to outfit around 6,000 staff members globally.
