Allison Ausband, Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer at Delta, shares her insights into the unexpected paths that many employees take as they grow their careers within the company. Ausband recounts her own journey, from studying journalism at the University of Georgia to becoming a flight attendant, eventually rising to her current position. "It's a completely different path than I envisioned nearly 40 years ago. But if I had to start all over again, I'd choose this path as I've loved every minute," said Ausband.

Ausband recently spoke with Captain J.R. Canales, a pilot with a long-standing Delta career. Canales reflects on his early years in Orlando, Florida, a place where "just about everybody worked for Delta." Starting as an air cargo agent, Canales explored various roles within the company including positions in Airport Customer Service, Reservations & Care, TechOps, before becoming an A320 captain. "There's a lot I love about Delta," he acknowledged. "But it's the people that make us stand out. That is the secret sauce."

The narrative continues with Bryce Boigner's story, who transitioned from aspiring newspaper reporter with a journalism degree to a Delta employee during the economic downturn of 2020. Initially working as a Reservations & Care agent, Bryce now collaborates with Delta's Global Communications team. "Since being here, it's been such a great opportunity to grow," Bryce said.

Ausband emphasizes the Skills-First approach to hiring and career advancement at Delta, reflecting the diverse backgrounds and journeys of its employees. "I hear from people who have been with us for over 50 years, and some who are still just starting out," she noted.

Delta operates around 4,000 flights daily, an accomplishment attributed to its dedicated workforce. "I'm grateful people like J.R. and Bryce have entrusted their career journeys to us," expressed Ausband, as she looks forward to the future endeavors of Delta's 100,000 employees.
