Cathay Cargo has extended its congratulations to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for being recognized as the world's busiest cargo airport by the Airports Council International. This marks the 14th time HKIA has received this title since 2010, reflecting its significant role in global air cargo operations. Cathay Cargo has played a crucial part in this achievement.

Tom Owen, Director of Cargo at Cathay, said, "That Hong Kong has once again been named number one in the world for air cargo is an outstanding achievement and one that stands as testament to the cooperation, innovation and world-leading facilities that our home hub has to offer. As the largest cargo operator at HKIA, we are proud to be part of this success story."

Owen emphasized Cathay Cargo's commitment to ongoing improvement by stating, "We won’t rest on our laurels, however, and our investments into our fleet, network, facilities and digital capabilities reflect not only our commitment to, but also our confidence in the long-term future of the Hong Kong international aviation and logistics hub. We look forward to continuing to work together with the entire air cargo community, including the Transport and Logistics Bureau, Civil Aviation Department, Airport Authority Hong Kong and other important stakeholders, to innovate and ensure HKIA maintains its position as the world’s best and busiest air cargo hub."

In the International Air Transport Association's 2023 World Air Transport Statistics, Cathay Cargo ranks among the top 10 cargo carriers globally based on scheduled cargo tonne kilometers (CTK), and is fifth as a combination airline. In 2024, Cathay Cargo transported 1.5 million tonnes of cargo, an increase of 11% from the previous year, accounting for about 31% of HKIA's total cargo volume.

Cathay Cargo provides regular freighter services to over 40 destinations worldwide and also uses belly space on Cathay Group's passenger aircraft. Committed to the growth of Hong Kong as a hub, Cathay is investing more than HK$100 billion, aligned with the implementation of the Three-Runway System. Part of this investment includes acquiring over 100 new-generation aircraft, including six new Airbus A350F freighters, with an option for an additional 20.

Recently, Cathay Cargo was recognized as Cargo Operator of the Year by Air Transport World, reinforcing Hong Kong's standing in the industry.
