Alaska Airlines is introducing three new routes from San Diego International Airport. The airline, which is expanding its operations from a single-runway airport, will launch flights to Phoenix, Chicago, and Denver. “These exciting new additions to our network further expand our ability to take San Diegans directly to where they want to go, better than any other airline, with our premium onboard service and global loyalty program,” said Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Air Group.

Starting on August 20, flights to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will run three times daily using Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft. Departures are scheduled at 09:36, 13:55, and 20:59 local time. Itineraries to Chicago-O’Hare International Airport and Denver International Airport will begin on October 4. The Chicago flights will operate twice daily, while Denver flights will include morning and evening departures on a 737 MAX 9, with a mid-afternoon departure on an Embraer E175 operated by SkyWest Airlines.

Data shows other airlines, such as American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines, already operate on these routes. Cirium’s Diio Mi airline planning tool indicates that these airlines have scheduled significant weekly departures between San Diego and the new destinations.

In addition to the newly announced routes, Alaska Airlines will also initiate flights to other destinations, including Rogue Valley, Ronald Reagan Washington, and additional routes to Las Vegas. This expansion forms part of the airline's broader strategy to increase its capacity from San Diego, with expectations of a 9.5% increase in weekly flights and a 3.8% increase in seats compared to last year.
