Etihad Airways has announced an order for 28 Boeing widebody aircraft, totaling nearly $14.5 billion, including agreements with engine supplier GE Aerospace. This development was revealed during President Donald Trump's visit to the United Arab Emirates as part of a broader Middle Eastern tour.

The agreement includes a mix of Boeing 787s and Boeing 777Xs, though the exact number of each model remains unspecified. The White House stated, "With the inclusion of the next-generation 777X in its fleet plan, the investment deepens the longstanding commercial aviation partnership between the UAE and the United States, fueling American manufacturing, driving exports."

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO at Etihad Airways, commented on the significance of this commitment: “This commitment reflects our approach of carefully managing our fleet and expanding in line with demand and our long-term network plans. Since 2023, we’ve made consistent additions to our fleet, and this latest step ensures we continue to meet our future requirements.” The new aircraft are expected to be delivered starting from 2028.

The announcement coincides with several major deals secured by Trump during his trip across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and ultimately ending in the UAE. These deals include a substantial agreement by Qatar Airways for 160 Boeing aircraft valued at approximately $96 billion.

As Etihad expands its network with additional widebody aircraft orders from both Boeing and Airbus over upcoming years, it plans to introduce a new route connecting Abu Dhabi with Charlotte, North Carolina by May 2026. Currently serving five U.S. destinations—New York City; Chicago; Washington D.C.; Boston; Atlanta—the airline will operate four weekly flights using its Boeing 787 fleet.

Trump's involvement in these deals plays an important role for Boeing amid recent financial challenges linked partly due tariffs impacting international trade relations involving China earlier this year.
