JetBlue Airways has expanded its TrueBlue program, allowing points redemption on Japan Airlines (JAL) flights to Tokyo and other destinations. This partnership marks the first opportunity for JetBlue loyalists to redeem points on an East Asia-based airline.

Japan Airlines, which last year launched U.S. service using its new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, will serve as a "redeem" partner for JetBlue. This offers passengers a new avenue to use their TrueBlue points for international travel, especially for routes that connect directly to Japan.

JetBlue's Vice President of Loyalty and Personalization, Edward Pouthier, expressed enthusiasm over the expanded network of airline partners, stating the initiative offers more ways for members to redeem points.

For travelers looking to book these flights, JetBlue advises using their website to search and book JAL-operated flights the same way as JetBlue flights, with the option to use TrueBlue points. Example itineraries include an economy return flight from San Francisco to Tokyo's Haneda Airport for 29,000 points and a premium economy one-way flight on the same route for 59,000 points.

Japan Airlines operates multiple routes between Japan and the continental U.S., including flights from Tokyo's Haneda and Narita airports to major U.S. cities like Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, and Seattle. The carrier also connects to Honolulu from four Japanese airports.

TrueBlue points can be accumulated through flying JetBlue, using cobranded credit cards, or transferring rewards from partners like Chase Ultimate Rewards and American Express Membership Rewards. Additionally, JAL Mileage Bank members can now redeem their miles for select JetBlue flights, enhancing options for travel to regions such as Latin America, Canada, and the U.S. East Coast.

This collaboration between JetBlue and Japan Airlines is part of JetBlue's strategy to broaden its international network and offer more flexible travel options to its customers.
