In 2023, Delta Air Lines resumed its flight services between Miami International Airport and José Martí International Airport in Havana after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The daily flights provide a crucial connection between the two cities, benefiting the Cuban community in Florida. United Airlines no longer operates this route, leaving Delta and American Airlines as the primary carriers offering flights between Miami and Havana.

Delta's decision to maintain its Havana services stems from the high demand, particularly during periods of increased travel from the United States to Cuba for family visits and educational purposes. Though Delta's share of the market is small, the airline seeks to provide competition in the U.S.-Cuba flight sector. Delta's sustained presence in Cuba may be leveraged to increase flight frequency if market conditions improve.

The Havana International Airport, known as Rancho-Boyeros Airport, accommodates over 25 international airlines, including Delta, with flights to around 60 destinations across more than 30 countries. Cirium reports indicate Delta's scheduled flights between Miami and Havana amounted to 60 round-trip offerings, with 19,200 seats available in April, whereas American Airlines dominated the route with 216 flights and 74,736 seats.

Delta Air Lines, founded in 1929, is the largest airline by revenue globally and operates a fleet of 991 aircraft, including 77 Boeing 737-800s, which it uses for the Miami-Havana flights. These aircraft offer seats in three classes: Domestic First, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin, with in-flight entertainment and connectivity features.

Delta operates two daily Miami-Havana flights with its Boeing 737-800. The morning flight leaves Miami at 08:29, arriving in Havana at 09:50, and returns to Miami at 11:05, arriving at 12:17. The afternoon flight departs Miami at 13:55, reaching Havana at 15:15, and returns to Miami at 16:30, arriving at 17:50. American Airlines, meanwhile, maintains up to eight daily flights on the route.

Delta has significantly decreased its flight capacity between Miami and Havana by over 50% since resuming services, which has allowed American Airlines to become the leading operator on the route. Despite the reduced capacity, Delta continues to offer the flights to ensure passenger choice and foster competition.

Delta Air Lines acknowledges Havana's historical significance, noting its status as a shipbuilding center in the 17th century and the cultural richness demonstrated by Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its baroque and neoclassical architecture.

The United States has a long-standing aviation relationship with Cuba, with several airlines, including Delta, offering flights to the island. Discussions within the industry continue regarding optimizing these operations amid regulatory and market challenges.
