The Airbus A310, a derivative of the A300, continues to serve in various capacities despite its production ending in 1998. Initially developed at the behest of major European airlines, the A310 was designed for medium-haul routes with its balanced size and cost-effective operations. It has been utilized for cargo and military applications due to its versatile design.

Iran Airtour is one of the few airlines still operating this aircraft model extensively. Established in 1973 by Iran Air, it began domestic tours in 1982 and expanded internationally in 1992. The airline has plans to launch non-stop flights between Tehran and Paris using Airbus A300-600 aircraft starting January 2025. Additionally, new routes to Germany, Spain, and Italy are expected by March 2025.

According to VisitOurIran.com, Iran's flight network facilitates tourism throughout the country. Routes such as Tehran to Mashhad are popular year-round due to cultural sites like the Imam Reza Shrine. Other destinations include Shiraz and Isfahan, known for their historical significance.

In Europe, Marathon Airlines from Greece operates executive charter services alongside Aeroitalia from Italy, which primarily uses Boeing 737s and ATR 72s for scheduled flights. Both airlines continue expanding their services across different regions.

The A310 remains significant due to its innovations like a two-crew glass cockpit and integrated fuel transfer systems. While largely phased out of commercial service globally, it maintains a presence with Iran Airtour and military forces as a multi-role transport tanker.

"Until 2010, Iran Airtour was a state-owned airline company in Iran," but it transitioned to private ownership under Hesayar Co., part of the Iranian Ministry of Defense before being sold off again in 2016. The airline is now able to fly within European airspace since obtaining permission in October 2021.

Despite challenges faced over decades including sanctions impacting fleet updates at Iran Air, "the legacy of the Airbus A310 is found in its adaptability and technical innovations," highlighting its enduring influence on aviation design both commercially and militarily.
