American Airlines is set to expand its international offerings with a new route from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Brisbane Airport (BNE) in Australia. The service, scheduled to commence on December 5, marks the airline's second direct link to Brisbane and its third route to Australia overall.

The new flights will be operated three times weekly using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. These aircraft are part of American's existing fleet and do not feature the upcoming "787-9P" configuration with Flagship Suites. Steve Johnson, American's vice chair and chief strategy officer, emphasized the comprehensive service offered in collaboration with Oneworld alliance partner Qantas: "Together, we offer the most comprehensive service connecting the United States with Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific."

This announcement coincides with Qantas's plans to enhance its flight services between Australia and the United States. From December 3 through January 2026, Qantas will increase its DFW-Melbourne route frequency and deploy Airbus A380 aircraft on its DFW-Sydney route.

Brisbane continues to grow as a destination for U.S. travelers, supported by flights from several airlines including American Airlines from both LAX and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Qantas from LAX, Delta Air Lines from LAX, and United Airlines from San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

Travelers can book seats on these routes using American Airlines AAdvantage miles or Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Additionally, award seats are available through other Oneworld programs such as Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan and British Airways Club.
