Federal Express Corporation, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., plans to transport 2.7 million pounds of fresh flowers from Colombia and Ecuador to North America for Mother's Day. This period is one of the busiest times of the year for flower shipments.

"En FedEx nos sentimos profundamente orgullosos de ser un aliado estratégico para el sector floricultor. No solo transportamos flores, sino también el esfuerzo de miles de floricultores, el talento de exportadores regionales y la emoción de millones de consumidores que celebran una fecha tan especial," stated Eduardo Garrido, senior manager of ramps and customs for FedEx Colombia and Ecuador.

In 2024, Ecuador achieved a record by exporting flowers worth $1.016 billion, marking a 2.9% increase from 2023. Flowers have become Ecuador's sixth-largest non-oil export product. According to Expoflores data, the United States remains the primary destination for Ecuadorian flower exports, accounting for about 34% globally.

FedEx will enhance its services during the two-week season from April to May to support this commercial milestone. The company has robust infrastructure and can deliver fresh flowers from Ecuadorian farms through its FedEx International Priority DirectDistribution (IPD) service within 72 hours of harvest. This ensures that fresh flowers reach North America in less than three days, covering 99% of delivery addresses in the United States and Canada.

The company has also improved its value proposition with a new direct flight from Quito to Miami, optimizing transit times. Additionally, FedEx has upgraded its air cargo hub at Miami International Airport, which houses the largest cold chain facilities in FedEx's global network. Over 90% of flowers transported by air enter the United States through this facility, maintaining freshness and quality throughout transportation.

With these initiatives, FedEx reaffirms its commitment to supporting the growth and international recognition of Colombian and Ecuadorian flowers while contributing to the region's economic development by ensuring timely and high-quality deliveries for Mother's Day.
