Hainan Airlines has announced the launch of its first direct round-trip route between Haikou and London, which began service on May 7, 2025.

According to the China-Britain Business Council, the new direct route commenced with flight HU7911 departing Haikou Meilan International Airport at 13:40 local time and arriving at London Heathrow at 19:30. The return flight, HU7912, departs London at 22:00 and lands in Haikou at 17:05 the following day. This service operates once weekly and represents the first direct link between Hainan Province and the United Kingdom, intended to strengthen business and tourism connectivity.

As reported by AeroRoutes, the Haikou–London route is serviced by Hainan Airlines using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. This long-haul aircraft is known for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. It features lie-flat seating in business class, upgraded entertainment systems, and reduced cabin pressure for a more pleasant flying experience. The new nonstop route is an upgrade from the previously operated Haikou–Changsha–London itinerary, which required an intermediate stop and longer travel time.

According to Tropical Hainan, the direct Haikou–London flight is expected to significantly enhance economic and tourism ties between Hainan and the United Kingdom. The route offers more efficient access to Europe for travelers from southern China while also opening up Hainan as a tourist destination for European visitors. This development supports Hainan's broader initiative to internationalize its tourism and trade sectors under China’s free trade port policies.

Hainan Airlines was established in 1993 and is headquartered in Haikou. It is a major Chinese carrier operating both domestic and international routes. The airline maintains a fleet of over 200 aircraft and serves more than 100 cities worldwide, spanning Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania. According to its official website, Hainan Airlines has received multiple SKYTRAX five-star ratings and is recognized for its emphasis on safety, service quality, and innovation.
