Air India announced the cancellation of flights to and from eight cities on May 13, 2025, citing safety concerns amid regional tensions.

According to NDTV, Air India canceled flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot due to heightened regional tensions. The airline issued a public travel advisory stating that these measures were implemented to prioritize passenger safety in response to "the latest developments." The advisory urged customers to stay informed through the airline’s website and contact center.

The Times of India reported that although the Airports Authority of India reopened 32 regional airports on May 13 following a temporary suspension, Air India opted to continue cancellations for select destinations. This decision was attributed to a careful assessment of ongoing operational risks despite general improvements in airspace accessibility. The airline noted it was maintaining close coordination with relevant authorities and would resume flights once conditions stabilized.

According to The Indian Express, the cancellations impacted passengers across northern and western India as Air India and IndiGo both halted service to sensitive regions. The airlines advised travelers to check for status updates online and provided options for rebooking or full refunds. The precautionary move came amid widespread reports of military activity near the India–Pakistan border, prompting a surge in safety-first operational responses.

Air India, founded in 1932 and currently headquartered in New Delhi, is India's national carrier and part of the Tata Group following its privatization in 2022. The airline operates a fleet of more than 120 aircraft and serves over 100 domestic and international destinations. According to the airline's official communications, Air India is a member of Star Alliance and is recognized for its legacy brand, the Maharaja, and its role as a global ambassador of Indian aviation.
