Ethiopian Airlines Group has entered into agreements with GE Aerospace to equip its new Boeing 787s with GEnx engines. This decision will expand Ethiopian's fleet of GEnx-powered aircraft from 19 to 30. Additionally, the airline reaffirmed its previous order for GE9X engines for eight Boeing 777-9 planes, including options for six more.

The agreements also encompass a service contract covering maintenance, repair, and overhaul of both engine types. Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew stated: "Our partnership with GE Aerospace has been instrumental in enabling us to deliver world-class service to our passengers as Africa’s leading airline." He added that these deals demonstrate their commitment to fleet modernization and sustainability.

Russell Stokes, President and CEO of Commercial Engines and Services at GE Aerospace, expressed honor in strengthening ties with Ethiopian Airlines: “We are honored to deepen our collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines, a valued partner for many years."

These developments highlight the long-standing relationship between Ethiopian Airlines and GE Aerospace that began in 2003. The investment reflects the airline's focus on delivering high-quality passenger services while emphasizing sustainability.

The GE9X engine is noted as the most powerful commercial aircraft engine available today and offers significant fuel efficiency improvements over its predecessor. The GEnx engine family has accumulated over 62 million flight hours since its introduction in 2011 and powers two-thirds of all operational Boeing 787s.

Ethiopian Airlines continues to be recognized as a leader in African aviation through numerous awards and remains committed to expanding its global reach through strategic partnerships and advanced technology investments.
