Five variants of the Boeing 777 continue to be utilized, including the 200LR, known for its long-range capabilities. The aircraft, introduced in 2006 with Pakistan International Airlines, is also operated by Air Canada, Air India, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Turkmenistan Airlines. The 200LR's design allows it to cover up to 8,555 nautical miles but trades off passenger and freight payload for fuel capacity.

The longest nonstop flight currently operated by a Boeing 777-200LR is Air India's route between Bengaluru and San Francisco. This flight can take up to 18 hours and will resume this schedule on October 27. "At up to 18h 00m, Air India between Bengaluru and San Francisco is first by this measure," the press release states.

Other significant routes include Air India's Mumbai to San Francisco service at a maximum of 17 hours and 35 minutes and Air Canada's Toronto to Mumbai service at an equal time of 17 hours and 25 minutes alongside Qatar Airways' Doha to Auckland route.

Air India's operations have been affected due to a temporary ban imposed by Pakistan on Indian airlines flying over its airspace following a mass shooting in Kashmir. This led some flights from San Francisco to make refueling stops in Vienna or Kolkata. However, unless the ban is extended beyond May 23, it should not affect services scheduled from June onwards.

Additionally, Air Canada launched nonstop flights from Toronto to Mumbai in December last year using the Boeing 787-9. Due to the route's length and geopolitical constraints requiring detours around Russian and Ukrainian airspace, flights often included a technical stop in Frankfurt for refueling. The route's frequency was reduced as a result. When services resume this winter season in October, the plan is for the Boeing 777-200LR to operate nonstop both ways.
