Cargolux and AIT Worldwide Logistics have entered into a significant agreement to utilize Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in their operations, collaborating with Microsoft for the transportation of server racks as part of Microsoft Cloud Logistics. This partnership is expected to save 66,000 tonnes of CO2e over three years, from 2025 to 2027.
The SAF will be supplied by Valero Marketing & Supply Company Diamond Green Diesel LLC and is derived from used cooking oil and tallow, excluding palm oil. It will be added to Cargolux’s fuel inventory at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
Both companies are using the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials Registry to ensure transparency in tracking SAF claims. The neat SAF meets EU/CORSIA certification standards. Colin Todd from Microsoft emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainability goals: “By working together to increase the production and use of SAF, we can help to cost effectively drive down emissions.”
