At the Farnborough Airshow in July 2024, Airbus Defence & Space announced the launch of its A330 MRTT+ program. This is an update to the existing A330 MRTT, which is based on the A330-200 model. According to Airbus, this development is described as a "natural evolution" and a response to "market demand." It may also serve as a strategy for Airbus to address its declining sales of the A330-800.

The announcement highlights Airbus's efforts to adapt and respond to market needs while potentially revitalizing interest in its aircraft offerings.
